Explore Santiago |
| |
The city has a huge range of different neighbourhoods to visit, so venture out of your hotel!
Take the opportunity to get to know Bellavista, the bohemian quarter and home to Chile's Pablo Neruda. You can visit his former house, now a museum; we suggest that you reserve you tour in advance.
Patronato hosts Santiago's Korean and Middle Eastern communities, where the influence is evident from the food served, the people you meet and the lifestyle they lead.
Or if you fancy a pause for a glass of wine, a hot chocolate, or want to sample some of the best ice-cream in Santiago, Lastarria's sophisticated cafes are just across the river.

If you want to get more involved in the city life, take a look at Santiago's English online entertainment magazine, Revista Revolver. It's a great for reviews of restaurants and bars, and has a diary of upcoming events in and around Santiago.

Tours |
| | La Bicicleta Verde offers a range of bicycle and walking tours, recommended by Lonely Planet.
When you only have a short time here, these tours show a great selection of what Santiago has to offer. We especially recommend the Huachaca Tour (pronounced WA-CHA-KA), a gustatory walking tour through street markets and back-street bars that the guide books don't even know about. You explore Santiago's sights whilst discovering sopaipillas, fresh juices and pisco sours, finishing in the most traditional yet secret bar, La Piojera. (click for more details)
Alternatively, how about a round of golf or some wine tasting? CHIP Travel has been in the guide books for over 10 years now, offering tours to local vineyards where you can sample the finest flavors Chile has to offer. Or you can hire some clubs and test your handicap on some of Chile's finest fairways and greens, all arranged for you. If you're more interested in discovering Chile's past, CHIP's fascinating Human Rights tour takes a step back into history, as you visit the remains of Pinochet's dictatorship throughout the city.
